Travels

Tomorrow I am leaving for Toronto to visit my dad for two days, and then to Dundas to visit Rachel for two days. It has become a Christmas tradition to visit my dad each year for some fun, fellowship, and sweet deals shopping.

Usually I look forward to the trip, but this year I feel uneasy. I don't know whether it's God trying to warn me, or just an overreaction to last year's boxing day shooting. In any case, please pray for me so that I will be at ease and also for my safety. Also pray for Rachel's safety as she will be with me in Toronto for a while tomorrow and on the 29th as well.

Expect some sweet pictures when I get back. See ya!

I feel the need...

... to rub it in that I saw Radiohead live on one of the 3 North American dates for the Kid A tour. It was on Tuesday October 17th 2000. Heres the Setlist:

Apparently this and this describe my personality. Are they right? That's up to you. Comments please.

maggots fill the minds of unbelievvvvaaaaaarrrs!!!!

YAY!

I received my copy of Mortification- Scrolls of the Megilloth today. AWESOME JESUS DEATH METAL!!!

Many know ol' Morty as one of the most influential early Christian metal bands... this album itself was even influential outside the Christian market. Check out Jayson Sherlock's drum skills! (Y'know, the guy who invented Christian black metal to the chagrin of everyone!)

Morty is also known because they eventually became very cheesy. Now I know why... Steve Rowe is now the lone original member of Morty, and on this, their greatest album, he only wrote 4 songs out of 10! They are sweet too. So are the ones by the other 2 members... I think the fact that Steve writes ALL the songs now has led to the drop in quality of their music, just because it is hard to write 10 good songs for an album (I couldn't do it).

Plus now Morty is of the "power metal" persuasion.... I prefer brutal DEATH METAL. This album makes me grin ear to ear. God bless you Steve, Jayson and Michael for creating one of the greatest Jesus Christ metal records of all time!

I bought OK Computer the day it came out...

...when I was like, 12. That makes me 75% more hipster than you.

Then I became an overzealous christian and got rid of it.
I am not an overzealous christian anymore.

Is that all?

as a comment on Jer and Megan:

Oh to sing this song makes me angry
I'm not angry with you.
Is that all?
Is that all?
Is that all?

Oh to sing this song makes me happy
I'm not happy with you.
Oh to sing this song makes me dance.
Is that all?
Is that all?
Is that all?

Is that all?
Is that all?
Is that all?
Is that all you want from me?

Sometimes you're closer than my skin

No one understands the mind of God except his Spirit. The closest I can get is in the moment of religious ecstasy during intense worship. Then my mind matches his. But even then I lack.

No one understands your mind except your spirit and God's Spirit. The closest I can get is the moment of sexual ecstasy when our bodies are joined together as one. Then my mind matches yours. But even then I lack.

Neither is joy complete.
Neither is my communion.

...and the aftermath

Now I had no intention of ever getting Norma Jean's new record Redeemer for a couple reasons. First of all, I am "OG" Norma Jean... I got in at ground level buying Bless the Martyr... the day it was released, and I love that album... and I really love Josh Scogin.

When O' God the Aftermath came out I was disappointed. Cory's vocals weren't nearly as good as Josh's and the "sloppy goodness" of the past album was dropped for a slick sheen. The album sounded like a bad Botch rip-off. It's grown on me, but still, not nearly as good as the old stuff.

Secondly, every review of Redeemer says it sucks. Every one.

So I get it for free. "Secret Santa" at work. Nice. Worth a listen right? Every person who has reviewed this album is on crack. This freaking owns! More diversity than the last record, vocals 10 times better, music tighter, better lyrics. And sloppy goodness too! The album is short, 41 minutes, but it definitely works in its favor, leaving me wanting to just throw it on repeat...

Seriously, on first listen this has me more pumped than even Bless the Martyr. Whether or not it'll live up to that in the long term is undecided, but right now, damn I'm happy!

Get this album!

(Thanks Cassie, you're the best "Secret Santa" ever!)
